Preservation and support – Sustainable impact of scientific research in deserts and savannahs
The scholars involved in ACACIA have in a variety of ways given their support to the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage in the regions in which they have worked. They take part in the creation of protective zones, in which the cultural and natural heritage can be preserved, and at the same time involve the present-day population, who benefit from this, in these protective measures. ACACIA experts have recorded stories about traditions and made them accessible to people. These records can in many places be used directly by the population to defend their interests vis-à-vis the government and international pressures. In the medium term, moreover, they represent an important resource for the preservation of cultural diversity on this planet at a time of cultural change and rapid globalisation.
